Getting started
Dropped items on the ground
This page helps you learn to play.
What happens to an item you drop: where it lies, who can see it and for how long, and how to pick one up.
Dropping
Choose Drop, or Drop all, in an item’s menu in your bag. The item is not destroyed: it lies on the ground where you stand, shown by its own picture with a soft glow, and your traveller reaches down to set it there.
Drop all puts each item down on its own. A stack, such as bait, lies as one item and is picked up as one.
Equipment, such as robes, the crown and the wooden cross necklace, stays in your bag or the storehouse. It cannot be dropped.
Who can see it, and for how long
- The first minute
- Only you can see it, and you can take it back.
- The next two minutes
- If it can be traded, everyone in your Capernaum can see it, and anyone can take it.
- After three minutes
- It is gone for good.
- Items that cannot be traded
- Nobody else ever sees them. They are gone after three minutes too.
Where it can be seen
Only travellers in the same Capernaum as you can see what you drop. Someone in another Capernaum never sees it.
The first cave and the High Place keep their own ground: an item dropped there stays there.
Picking an item up
If your bag is full, the item stays where it lies and the Game tab tells you. A stackable item, such as bait, still joins the stack you already carry.
Only one person can pick up an item. If someone else gets there first, you are told it is gone.
- Click or tap the item on the ground. Take is its first choice, so your traveller walks over and picks it up.
- To choose one item from a pile, or to Examine it, right click with a mouse or hold on a touch screen, then choose Take or Examine.
- You must be beside it, within 3 metres, to pick it up. Your traveller walks there first.
Giving by dropping
You can pass an item to a friend by dropping it, as long as it can be traded: they will see it once the first minute is over. The Trade window is safer, because you both agree before anything moves.
Nothing can be copied this way. The item simply moves from one bag to another, exactly as it does in a trade.
This guide describes game mechanics. Skill names and levels describe a character’s progress, not a person’s spiritual standing.
