Badges by names
This page is about playing with other people.
The small badge before some gamer names: Alpha tester, Beta tester, Moderator and the owner’s crown.
What each badge means
Some gamer names have a small badge before them wherever names show: in public and party chat, over a traveller’s head, in the People and Friends lists, in the party frame and on the leaderboards. Hover over a badge, or hold it on a touch screen, to see what it means, such as “Alpha tester: played The Way in its alpha”.
The game’s server gives every badge. Your own device never decides one, and a badge cannot be bought, traded or earned any other way. Badges are a mark by a name and carry no bonus.
- Alpha tester
- A gold A, the Greek letter Alpha, on a red disc with a gold rim. Every account that plays The Way during its alpha, the testing time now under way, has it. Players who first play after the alpha closes do not.
- Beta tester
- A silver B, the Greek letter Beta, on a blue disc with a silver rim. Every account that plays during the beta, which comes later, will have it.
- Moderator
- A silver shepherd’s crook on a green disc with a silver rim: a shepherd who keeps the flock. It marks the accounts that help keep The Way kind and safe.
- Owner
- The gold crown, for the owner of The Way.
Showing or hiding your badge
Your Alpha badge shows by default. To hide it, open the Account tab and turn off Show my Alpha badge. Turn it on again whenever you like. Other travellers see the change at once. A Beta badge will have a switch of its own.
One badge shows by a name at a time. If you have both the Alpha and the Beta badge, the Alpha shows; hide it and the Beta shows instead.
This guide describes game mechanics. Skill names and levels describe a character’s progress, not a person’s spiritual standing.
