Skills
Fishing
This page is about a skill you can train.
Catch food at the shore and jetties, improve your catches and respond to a pull.
Getting equipped

Menahem sells fishing tackle. A rod costs 3 denarii, a cast net costs 12, and 10 pieces of bait cost 1. A rod needs bait; one is used for each catch. A cast net needs no bait.
At the shore a carried cast net is preferred. Otherwise use a rod and bait. At the jetty use a rod and bait.

Catches and pulls
An attempt takes about 3.5 seconds after the previous response. Not every attempt catches a fish. A higher Fishing level improves your chance, up to 90%, and up to 95% at level 100.
Some catches produce a pull prompt. Respond within 8 seconds. Catfish are returned to the lake.
Double catches become possible at level 15, with a 10% chance, rising to 15% at level 20 and 20% at level 25. Complete The Torn Net to learn Halafta’s far cast.
Level 100
Mantle of the fisher, worn only by those at level 100, and the title Fisher of men by your name on the hiscores. Your catches come more often at every spot: at most 95 casts in 100, not 90.
The mantle is given once, into your bag (or your storehouse when the bag is full), the moment the game sees your Fishing at level 100. Every traveller near you sees the celebration.
This guide describes game mechanics. Skill names and levels describe a character’s progress, not a person’s spiritual standing.
