Getting started
Robes, hair and appearance
This page helps you learn to play.
Dress your traveller, visit the village shops and earn cosmetic rewards.
Worn equipment
Open Equipment beside the Bag to see your character and ten worn slots: head, necklace, cape, weapon, shield, body, legs, boots, gloves and ring. Click a worn slot to remove its item into your bag. Empty slots do not open a menu. Removing an item requires one free bag slot.
Click clothing in your bag to wear it. Swapping gear puts the previously worn item into the bag slot you just freed, even if the bag was full. Equipment stays on your account and can be stored at the storehouse; it cannot be dropped or traded. Removing clothing always leaves a full plain robe underneath. Empty slots are reserved for future equipment; there is no ammunition slot. The wooden cross necklace is the reward for the quest A Cord of Three Strands.
The verified AVS owner account alone has white and gold owner robes and a small gold crown. The robes and their gold glow can be removed independently of the crown. Other travellers see the equipment you wear.
Equipment bonuses
Some equipment carries a small bonus while you wear it, shown under the slots in the Equipment tab and in the item’s Examine line. The wooden cross necklace gives Faith bonus +3.
Each point of Faith bonus makes your Words land 1 per cent stronger, in the cave, the High Place and against a world boss. Hits are whole numbers, so the game keeps the part left over and adds one more point of light whenever the parts make a whole one: with +3, 100 points of light become 103. The server works out every hit; taking the necklace off removes the bonus at once.
Robes, the crown and the owner robes are for appearance only and carry no bonus.
Your traveller
Choose your traveller’s appearance when you start. Your look is cosmetic: robe colours do not grant Faith, Knowledge or Righteousness levels.
Jasmine lets you change into robes you own without buying them again. Your starting robe is already owned. Some appearance choices depend on the body chosen.

A changed hairstyle or hair colour costs 10 denarii at Daniel’s barber stall. Leaving it unchanged costs nothing. Jasmine sells the robe colours below; changing skin tone is free.

Earned rewards
The High Place offers robes and woven borders bought with tokens earned through dungeon play. These remain available after purchase and give no combat bonus.
This guide describes game mechanics. Skill names and levels describe a character’s progress, not a person’s spiritual standing.
